Our Sweaty Girl

K sweats like noone I know. I'm not a sweaty person and even though Leo sweats quite a bit, it's nowhere near what K's like.

This morning we put K in our bed for a morning nap (about 30 min long). Here's somethings to keep in mind...
*The AC is going full blast
*K is wearing a short sleeve onesie and diaper
*K's not using any blankets, just her thin swaddle blanket

This is what she looked like when she woke up:

This is the puddle of sweat she left in our bed! Yes, that is all from her head!!

8 & 9 Months

The last two months have been a blur! With School ending and K growing at a crazy speed, I can barely remember what the two months have been like... Now that things have slowed down, we're getting spend lots of time with K - taking her out more, signed her up for a month of gymboree, will explore the parks in the city... what a fun time it'll be this summer!

Highlights:

GROWTH
*weight at 9 mo: 21 lbs (75th percentile)
*height at 9 mo: 28" (50th percentile) - she had a major growth spurt the last three months

FOOD
*Drinks about 30 oz of milk each day
*Eats just about anything we give her. She's eating table food and baby food. Has tried most things except eggs, dairy, honey, and nut butters. She can feed herself crackers but still needs to work on her pincer grab
*Possible Allergies: Soy (she's thrown up the last two times we gave her tofu... hoping she outgrows it!)

SKILLS
*Crawling!!!! She can really get around now. we can't just set her down anymore. sigh... time to baby proof!
*also able to pull herself to standing and has recently figured out how to slowly sit down on her bottom
*starting to "cruise" a lil but not very good at it yet.
*still a very happy and relaxed baby! everyone always comments on how content she is.
*likes to play peek-a-boo, bang her toys to make noise, grabbing anything that has buttons (like cell phones and remotes)

TRAVELS
*She joined us for a whirlwind trip to LA. She did great on the plane. Barely cried to the relief of those near us. Slept and ate well on the plane and adjusted to Pacific time pretty easily and back to eastern time quickly too.

7 & 8 Months

K's getting so fun now! She's growing and learning so much. We can see her just observing and learning all the time.

Some highlights:
Foods tried: Yellow squash, broccoli, fish, chicken, sweet potato, winter squash, multigrain cheerios, rice crackers, turnip
(haven't found anything she doesn't like)

She can feed herself a cracker and drinks out of a cup (with help)

She's pulling herself up and starting to get into a crawl position. she still hasn't crawled - we think she might skip crawling and go straight to walking.

We've got her on a pretty good schedule with helps us a lot! She feeds at 5am, 9am, 1pm, 5pm, and 730pm. she naps for 30 min to an hour after she eats and sleeps from 8pm to 5 am.

She grew two more teeth... that's 6 total!

She's a very happy baby. Loves to smile and laugh. she laughs when we tickle her or when her dad farts or burps.

She refuses to wear shoes.

She's starting to sense stranger danger and gets nervous when she doesn't see us.

6 Months

Around 4 -5 months she grew her first two teeth on the bottom. this month she got her top two teeth! She's got a total of 4 teeth at 6 months!

here's a quick snapshot:
Height: 24.5 in (25-50th percentile)
Weight: 16 lbs 11 oz (75th percentile)
Head: 17.5
Tried solids for the first time... Rice Cereal
Also tried Avocado
Sitting up by herself

She took her first international trip to Cancun, Mexico. Had a great time enjoying the warm weather. Went to the beach for the first time and spent time in the pool everyday. We had a great time hanging out with friends and celebrating the marriage of close friends.

4 Months

After a nice 2 week Christmas break, we're back to our work routine. We're pretty much in bed by 10:30 most nights and up by 5am most mornings (well Leo is anyway). What a change this has been to our schedule. I'm such a night owl so this has been the biggest change for me. There are still nights where I'm wired and can't sleep so I'm up until midnight or later and then regretting it at 6 am the next morning.

K's growing really well! her cheeks are exponentially bigger.. they're out of control! when you look at her profile - all you see are cheeks, can't even see her nose. They've seriously taken over... our friends 3 yr old son looked at her the other day and said "Whoa, baby K has no neck!" we tried to show him her neck but of course her cheeks were in the way so he didn't believe us. as far as he's concerned, she's got no neck!!

K had her 4 month check up today. She's developing and growing well. here's a quick snapshot:
Height: 24 in (25-50th percentile)
Weight: 14 lbs 12 oz (75th percentile)
Head: 16.5 in

-Can grasp at things
-Can follow an item with her eyes
-Smiles at people
-Looks people in the eye
-Holds her head up very well, she loves her Bumbo and sits in it very well
-Discovering her legs (we think she'll start turning this month)
-Coos and babbles all the time

Christmas Day 2009

Kaitlyn experienced her first snow storm on Christmas Eve in Texas of all places. Peggy and I spent a week visiting Peggy's parents down in Plano and last night we were in the mood for some real BBQ. Apparently, Rudy's (some gooood bbq)was open until 10pm. It began to snow pretty violently outside, so I called Rudy's to see if they were open on Christmas day (I mean, movie theaters are open, why not restaurants?). They were not. Since we were going to leave town the day after Christmas, if we wanted barbeque, Christmas eve would have to be it. We took out the SUV and braved the roads.

Now, I'm an experienced snow driver. Growing up in Wisconsin, I can deal with snow and ice. The only thing is that Texas drivers don't know a whole lot about driving in these conditions, so people make some stupid moves. We had a close call when a car in front of me totally hit the gas and spun out into my lane. Idiot. Good thing we had anti-lock brakes.

Needless to say, we made it to Rudy's and brought home some good food. In retrospect, we probably should not have gone out in the first place. It was way windy and way icy. What should have taken us 20 minutes there and 20 minutes back took us two hours round trip. Jenny, Peggy's sister, said, "I told you so."

Well, in other news, this morning, I woke up at 5 to feed Kaitlyn. We were doing our normal routine of eating and burping. The room was sort of hot, so I turned on the ceiling fan. Kaitlyn noticed the ceiling fan for the first time and just stared at it as it spun and spun around. She seemed fascinated. Nowadays, she loves staring at certain things, the TV is extremely fascinating to her, but we don't like her watching TV yet, so we constantly have to turn her back to it. Ceiling fans are ok.
