It's official - I have gestational diabetes. So much for being able to eat whatever you want while pregnant. Still can't complain considering how easy this pregnancy has been.
So apparently gestational diabetes is pretty common and usually goes away after the baby's born. I just have to really watch what I eat for the remainder of the pregnancy. :(
Doctor's Orders:
Finger Prick Glucose Test: 4 times a day (when I wake up and an hour after Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner)
Foods I can eat: Cooked meats, Veggies, Nuts, Fruits such as apples, pears, berries, bananas
Foods I shouldn't eat: Breads, Cereals, Starchy Veggies, Sweets/Desserts, Fruits such as mangos, pineapples, grapes
Downsides: I have to watch what I eat. I really want sweets and desserts ALL the time now. I constantly covet other people's food. ahhhhh I COVET!!!! I also have to prick fingers 4 times a day - it's not that painful but still hurts and I have trouble remembering to test myself an hour after I eat.
Upside: This is forcing me to eat super healthy. I'm not going to gain much weight for the remainder of the pregnancy. This is good for the baby. I know that the baby will come no later than Oct 2. In my situation, the doctor will induce by Oct 2 at the latest - they won't allow me to go over my due date.
So my doctor has suggested I eat some form of an egg every morning (i can also have some bacon or sausage with it). A snack twice a day (cheese, nuts, fruit). And protein and leafy greens/veggies for lunch and dinner. Nothing very saucy or creamy. If i really can't handle it, then i can have those skinny cow choc ice cream bars but i have to make sure it's not loaded with sugar alcohol (which is just as bad as sugar).
I've survived a week and only went over the limit a couple of times (stinking 1/2 pancake and chinese food!). 9 more weeks to go....

Week 28
I'm now starting my third trimester... the second was uneventful, went really smoothly, and was overall very enjoyable.
Highlights from my second trimester
*hearing the baby's heartbeat
*feeling the baby kick and move
*getting all my energy plus some back
*getting lots of love and support from friends and family
As I enter the third trimester, the reality of the baby's arrival is finally settling in. We've been so blessed by our church community - their generosity with baby items, advice, prayers, support... who knew that babies needed so many things or that there were so many options out there. It's also been so great having friends who've recently gone through the process and hearing their stories. Thank goodness for everyone's advice and research :)
I'm feeling HUGE and am suppose to get even bigger (boo)... I am physically exhausted - it takes so much effort to get off the couch and out of bed nowadays. I pee even more frequently (did not think this was possible), a flight of stairs knocks the wind out of me (it's a pretty amusing sight... me walking up the stairs - stopping at the top, crouching over and hyperventilating), i can't sleep through the night... sigh - all these things though are preparing me for what's to come... scary. Despite all this, I really can't complain - Leo and i have been so abundantly blessed this entire pregnancy! God is so GOOD!
The baby's doing really well! She should be a lil over 2 lbs now and about 14 inches in length. I feel every movement she makes now and Leo is actually able to feel them too. I'm still waiting for the moment when I can actually see her move (it's going to freak me out!).
Here's a pic of me at 28 weeks. see how tired i look...
