Christmas Day 2009

Kaitlyn experienced her first snow storm on Christmas Eve in Texas of all places. Peggy and I spent a week visiting Peggy's parents down in Plano and last night we were in the mood for some real BBQ. Apparently, Rudy's (some gooood bbq)was open until 10pm. It began to snow pretty violently outside, so I called Rudy's to see if they were open on Christmas day (I mean, movie theaters are open, why not restaurants?). They were not. Since we were going to leave town the day after Christmas, if we wanted barbeque, Christmas eve would have to be it. We took out the SUV and braved the roads.

Now, I'm an experienced snow driver. Growing up in Wisconsin, I can deal with snow and ice. The only thing is that Texas drivers don't know a whole lot about driving in these conditions, so people make some stupid moves. We had a close call when a car in front of me totally hit the gas and spun out into my lane. Idiot. Good thing we had anti-lock brakes.

Needless to say, we made it to Rudy's and brought home some good food. In retrospect, we probably should not have gone out in the first place. It was way windy and way icy. What should have taken us 20 minutes there and 20 minutes back took us two hours round trip. Jenny, Peggy's sister, said, "I told you so."

Well, in other news, this morning, I woke up at 5 to feed Kaitlyn. We were doing our normal routine of eating and burping. The room was sort of hot, so I turned on the ceiling fan. Kaitlyn noticed the ceiling fan for the first time and just stared at it as it spun and spun around. She seemed fascinated. Nowadays, she loves staring at certain things, the TV is extremely fascinating to her, but we don't like her watching TV yet, so we constantly have to turn her back to it. Ceiling fans are ok.

3 Months

Can't believe it's been three months since K joined our family! It's been a pretty crazy 3 months - lots of changes...

Leo started his new job teaching science and math at Geneva School. He loves it! the classroom sizes are small, the students are great, and there's lots of administration and parent support. He even got to put his video making skills to work when his students made the movie - Odyssey, the last two weeks. They read it this year for Humanities.

I also started her new job as Director of Operations at Geneva School. I love my new job! The job came out of the blue and is totally a provision of God's. I had actually interviewed and met with the Head of School at Geneva about a year ago but at that time there were no positions open. I was all prepared to work part-time with COPGNY and work from home when the call came from Geneva. They needed an Operations Director and really wanted me to be there. So after much discussion and prayer - we decided I should take it. I love working with all the students, the families, and staff. It's been a steep learning curve but really rewarding.

K's now a little over 3 months old. she's been growing and changing so much. We can't remember what she was like 2 months ago! she smiles alot now, coos and "talks" to us all the time, sleeps through the night, and eats really well. she's now over 13 lbs and is in the 25 percentile for height and 75 percentile for weight. we call her our short fatty ;) Since both Leo and I are working, K has a nanny that takes care of her during the week. Mrs. Liu is such a blessing to us too! God really has provided in every way. It's hard to find a good nanny that you trust so we were so glad when Mrs. Liu said yes. She was the nanny to the boys of some friends of ours and they loved her. It's so great to be able to leave K with someone that we trust. We can see that Mrs. Liu really loves K too and is so gentle and good with her. Plus she cooks and cleans for us too... couldn't ask for more

here's some pics of K from the last 3 months (for more pics go to peggyandleo.smugmug.com - family, k 1 month, 2 months, 3 months) ... see how she's grown!! who does she look like now??
